This project entails the adaptive re-use and conversion of an historic block of a courthouse and police barracks, with the first phase being the conversion of one of the police buildings into a Youth Training Centre. The original building was a single storey linear brick structure of about 1000 square feet. This was enveloped into a two storey steel and concrete structure of about 8000 square feet, with the steel structure of the new building spanning over the older brick. The design utilizes the rhythms and proportions and material palette of the historic Georgian surroundings, in a contemporary form.
